9/13/05 Class Rules Meeting Minutes
Attendees - Brian Stevens, Bob Pattison & Tim Yourieff (Neil Pryde), Mobetter, Clewless
Bob Pattison & Tim Yourieff from Neil Pryde were invited to join our regular discussions by Bill. We took advantage of this opportunity to learn about the sail package being considered by HipTrader.
First draft of sail rules - Bob Pattison has kindly marked up a draft document for us - this will be circulated to the "ad-hoc" rules team (Clewless, Mobetter, SailSD, OnedesignJ80) for further review.
Bob commented that a lot of the FT sail rule issues can be simplified from the ISAF template - down to ~ 2 pages
NP has been working on prototype sails in the background with B&B&B. They have come up with a proposal for FT class sails. From this discussion, we expect these to become the "included-in-the-package" delivery sails.
Material - Jib & Main
- (Default) Impregnated Dacron - exclude yarn tempered material due to cost
- (New proposal) FT class-specific Contender MAXX laminate material (this will be at nominal additional cost to the package - commercial details to be finalized by HipTrader - expect owners to be polled regarding this)
- One input was that we can pick a special tint color for the FT fleet.
Main: Main - bigger than as shown on Uncle Bob's sail plan - elliptical oversized top roach main but will still clear backstay for downwind gybes. 5 batten design, battens exclude CF for cost reasons.
A number of items are open from NP's view point -
- Tack - standard or floating tack i.e. no tack ring?
- Luff attachment - Rope vs slides
- Battens full vs standard
Jib: Jib sizing - 105% - estimated area of 220 sq ft
A number of open items
- Luff attachments - hank vs luff tape
- Vertical battens or not
Spinnaker .75 oz nylon -- current design is 1068 sq ft Design will be AP but biased towards running for W/L races
Open item -
- sprit dimesions still open
- need for frac chute is to be determined
