Nov 1st meeting minutes:

Attendees: Andy Roth, Pam B., Rick Smith, Don P., Tim C, Tom H, Brian S.

Discussion:

Again, a long discussion regarding sails. The owners summarized the recent discussions in the forum and the two polls conducted on sails. It was emphasized that these are good marketing inputs and real indicators of the opinions of potential buyers of the FT. The majority of potential buyers are active in the SA forums.

Pam provided additional input regarding the need to ensure the OD config is not too far from PHRF realities. Otherwise, life in PHRF will be unbearable and costly.

Brian reiterated that the fundamental design objective is to keep it affordable to be open to a bigger group of buyers. The initial default position is for class sails to be sourced via HT. However, he reminded us of the decision on the mast material - if a path can be found to meet both the wishes of the group and the affordability objective - HT will certainly explore those.

Rick brought up the discussion about long-term sail cost vs initial purchase cost. Too much initial affordability may end up costing owner more in the long run, if inferior sail technology is chosen based on initial price only.

The discussion then covered the topic of sail credit - his position was that ALL FTs will be shipped with a set of class legal sails. Earlier discussions of sail credit did not originate from HT. Regarding sail material & design - nothing is carved in stone at this point. With hull # 1 being laminated this week, it is expected that sail development on the water will start in around January. So any final sail design / material decision will be closer to Feb/March.

Discussion moved on to cover the mechanism for owner driven changes - i.e. class sail changes after initial shipments. This will be covered under the class constitution that provides ways to change class rules. Owners were looking for paths to improve sail rules once the class org gets on its feet - let's say after 50 hulls are sold - i.e. 50 voting members. Brian indicated that he would like to see a 2 year period between major changes in sail, to avoid owners' existing suite from getting obsoleted too frequently.

Tom emphasized that the general expectations regarding sails are not aligned (between owners & HT) and owners have options to purchase other boats.

Next we covered some wording issues regarding the class constitution (first draft largely based on MUMM 30 wording). This will be revised and posted later for group review.

We then moved on to the topic of the class web site. The www.Flyingtigerboats.com site is reserved for the Class Org for use in the future. HT will have an additional site for the commercial aspect of the FT.
