2/21/05 Class Org Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Locomotive, Mobetter, Christian, Cbayracer, Clewless, Mr. Clean

The team started to cover the all important sail rules:

Discussion focused on:

  1. Number of sails carried - proposed jib, main & 2 spins. Debate was whether the second spin is a spare (use spare only if primary is damaged) or to allow deep runner + flatter reachy sail. Also the working assumption for sail purchase is 5 sail per 2 years.
  2. Debated on sail material for main - team is leaning towards material that is used in large volumes for affordability (i.e. Dacron, Pentex, Aramids, Carbon) and exclude lower volume cloths. Durability will be a major focus as well (yarn tempered Dracron will be excluded) to make sure that mains can last long enough.
  3. Main can have up to 5 battens, we are considering 5 full battens (durability) but may need to allow 3 full + 2 partial (cheaper) to accomodate the OEM sails.
  4. We also discussed setting mailsail roach limits to as much as PHRF will tolerate.

We adjourned after 2 hrs of discussion.

Again, thanks to all attendees for their contributions.

No meeting next week, next meeting after the New Year.
