1/11/06 Class Org Meeting Minutes

Attendees: Locomotive, Christian, Cbayracer, Clewless, Mobetter, SailSD, Mr. Clean

The team continued to cover the all important sail rules:

Discussion centered on interpretation of Sail Poll 3. Our conclusions are:

Latest inputs in the sail poll 3 regarding sail construction & materials do not jive well with sail poll 2 results regarding sail expenditures. i.e. we are picking sail technology above what we picked for our budget.

The SP3 results point to roughly 30% or more in annual cost if based on a 5 sail every two year purchase limit assumption.

One can tighten the sail purchase limits. However, more restrictive purchase limits will hurt the heavy air regions.

The team is now working on several ideas to resolve this apparant gap -

  1. revisit the "class cloth" concept - use a class spec cloth for purchase volume (but this is available to individual sailmakers to allow local support)
  2. put some sail tech limits on the big mainsail while keeping the jib fairly hi tech.

Also discussed whether the (proposed) 2 spins on board can be used tactically (reacher/runner)or just as a spare (both are AP). We are still dabating this one.

We adjourned after 1.5 hrs of discussion.

Again, thanks to all attendees for their contributions.
